We've been tying our Active Schools work into Seachtain na Gaeilge. Last week all our songs for 'Drop Everything and Dance' were 'as Gaeilge'. Bhí gach duine ag damhsa sa seomra ranga agus amach sa chlós. On Monday pupils and staff were dressed in 'éadaí glas' and all classes took part in a parade around the school with our favourite tunes playing. It was a lot of fun. Thanks to Ms. Ryan for organising it and to everyone who took part.

Our  Parent's Association pedal powered cinema event was a fantastic success. It took place last Sunday and everyone had a great time. Tickets sold out, they were almost oversubscribed with cyclists and the kids really enjoyed the movie as well as watching their parents and teachers cycling. Thanks to all our volunteer cyclists for their time and sponsorship and also to those who attended the event or bought wattage to support it. A huge thank you must go to Susan Nolan and all the Parents Association for the huge amount of effort they put in raise money for the school. They've also really helped us with our active flag work by undertaking this venture.                                         Click on the picture to see pictures from the day on the PA blog.

Ms O Donoghue's and Ms Miley's classes have been taking part in some cosmic yoga lessons recently. They are really enjoying it and learning lots of yoga through fun videos. It is active, relaxing and a nice break from work. It's a great idea and some other classes might try it out too.

If you want to try some Cosmic Yoga have a look at this video and follow the instructions.

Gonoodle

We are using a very exciting new website in all the classrooms in St. Brigids. It is gonoodle.com and has so many fun activities, games and dance sessions to keep us active. The website channels classroom energy with short interactive brain breaks and keeps us engaged and motivated during the day. As well as keeping us active and getting us out of our seats each class has a mascot who grows as we earn minutes of activity. We use gonoodle on rainy days when we can't go out and at lots of other times too. It is a wonderful resource for schools and completely free. Check out 1st and 4th class having lots of fun with GoNoodle!

This week (9th-13th March) was national Scoot to School Week. This is important for both our Green Flag and Active Flag work. Everyone made a big effort to scoot or cycle to school during week. Ms Keogh  recorded the results from each class. We definitely saw progress over the course of the week. Well done everyone and thank you to Room 9 for all their work on this. Winning class will be revealed in a few days.

Ms Cooney's class and Ms Devlin's class got active while preparing for their tests last Friday. 4th class jogged around the yard in pairs asking each other their spellings and tables and 5th class used the hall. It was a fun way to revise and keep active at the same time and we look forward to doing this lots more. Here is what the kids thought about it: ' We really loved practising our spellings this way. It is a great way of learning and being active at the same time'  See photo's below.
