|St. Brigid's Active School Flag||
On May13th we had a visit from the Active Schools accreditor. He came to meet the staff and pupils on the committee, view some demonstrations, resources and affirm all the hard work St. Brigid's has done this year. During the visit Ms Keogh's class did a demonstration of Super Troopers activities, both first classes did a 'GoNoodle' demonstration and 6th class set up our playground games for the Junior Infants. He was very impressed by everything and we received our first Active flag following this visit. Thank you to our committee, all staff and pupils and our Parent's Association for helping us to achieve this flag. We had great fun along the way too.
See the slideshow below for some pictures from the day.
We really enjoyed our early morning workouts during Active School Week. We thought it was a great way to wake up our bodies and brains before school. Thanks to all the children on the committee who came in early to help us set up and run the circuit training. See the slideshow below for some of the fun activities.
We had a lovely afternoon down in Na Fianna last Thursday. 3rd to 6th class came to watch the football team and teachers play a football match. It was very enjoyable although a little more competitive than envisaged:-)!!! The red team won by a small margin. Thanks to our referees for the day Anna and Emily.Also thanks to Na Fianna for the use of their pitch anytime we need it.
Our first Active School Week was a really great success, full of fun and activity. Pupils, staff and parents in St. Brigid's really embraced it and the wonderful weather helped a lot. Thanks to all the A.S.F committee for doing a super job all week and indeed all the pupils and staff who helped out so much. A huge thank you to the parents who helped with the different activities too. Here are some photographs of our 20 km challenge. More photo's and video to follow soon.
St. Brigid's first Active School Week will take place the week of April 20th - April 24th. We are very excited about it and have lots of things planned. We will be doing circuit training before school, dancing at yard time, doing active homework, having a jersey day, taking part in a 20 km challenge and much more. Ms Edwards is basing all her computer classes on physical activity too. We hope you all enjoy it. Here are some pictures of girls from our committee measuring the hockey pitch in preparation for the 20 km challenge. Some words from our committee:
"We can't wait until next week. I am really looking forward to the Jersey day and the run. It is going to be a busy and fun filled week. We have been working hard to prepare for it but it's all been really fun." Lucie and Ellen
Both third classes were invited down to St. Mary's secondary school today for a fun filled 2 hours of activity. The transition year students organised and ran the event in the hockey pitch helped by Ms. Boran. The girls played parachute games, did hockey drills, danced and really had a wonderful time. We are very grateful to the girls in St. Marys for inviting us down and helping us to get active. See the slideshow below for photographs and click on the 'Be Active' link to bring you to a short video clip. Well done 3rd class.
